Sophia Williams has had a long time passion for yoga. When Sophia was young, her mom would bring her to yoga to help with breathing and early bouts of anxiety. Whether Sophia knew it at the time or not, it made a huge impact on her physically and mentally. Sophia then reconnected with yoga in college, where she was studying to get a degree in Music Performance at UIC. The university offered yoga courses, and she started practicing regularly, and it stuck and became a part of daily life. After college, Sophia got a job in Hong Kong, and while living there, she found a yoga studio with amazing teachers that not only deepened her practice and her love for yoga, but also helped her connect with a community in a different country.
After finishing her job contract, Sophia decided to sign up for a yoga teacher training program in Goa, India. She was then introduced to Ashtanga Yoga, and dove into the study of connection of breath, body, and mind. She decided to return to India later that year to complete her 500 hour certification in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Sophia moved back to Chicago in 2015 and started teaching yoga while also pursuing a music career. Since then, she has been splitting time teaching yoga and playing in a touring band.
Regardless of the style of yoga, in Sophia’s classes you can expect a strong focus on the breath, and slow, mindful movements, with the goal of having you leave relaxed, refreshed, and physically and mentally tuned in!
